INTERVIEW WITH EMMA FITZPATRICK

43302 - The Collection (2013), garnered good reviews. Now you’re in the midst of filming the sequel, The Collected. Is there a timetable for its release?

Emma Fitzpatrick - We are currently on hiatus with the filming of The Collected, so I'm not completely sure about a release date at this moment. But we sure had a ball shooting the first couple of weeks, and I'm so excited to see the third installment of these films come to life!

43302 - What do you like about Elena Peters, the character you play, in both films?

Emma - Elena was the first opportunity I had to play a lead in a feature film, and I had no idea at the time what a true gift she would be. In The Collection she gets ensnared in this terrible situation and, though she's terrified, I found her to be incredibly tenacious and clever. In the third installment we get to see how fiercely protective she is of the people she cares about. It's not every day I get to embody such a lion hearted woman.

43302 - Congratulations on the release of your EP, Lose It All. It’s a beautiful record. It had to be a relief to finally have it out.

Emma - Lose It All was such a labor of love. I recorded it in Nashville with my friend and producer Tyler James in his studio over the course of a few months in the Spring and Summer of 2019. Though we could not have predicted the strange circumstances the world would be in when we slated its release, I'm so grateful I had this project to share in the midst of a pandemic and lockdown. It was a reminder of the power of music and art, especially in trying times. The response has been so generous and kind.

43302 - The EP’s title track, “Lose it All”, has a strong country feel. You’ve performed in musicals. You were the singer-songwriter for the jazz group, Bon Mots. Yet many bios call you a jazz singer. What would you call your music?

Emma - I think because of my classical and musical theater vocal training my writing style has jumped around quite a bit in the past decade. The Mots Nouveaux was definitely more 40's and 50's style jazz inspired, but I was listening to some great old country music when this album was conceived, so it definitely has more of a vintage Americana and Soul flare. The title track especially harkens back to the Patsy Cline albums I've been spinning lately.

43302 - How did it feel to be back on the Palace Theater stage in 2017 when you returned for the Celebrate Marion Gala?

Emma - What a blast! So many of my first experiences performing were in those hallowed halls. That place is still as magical as it was to me then, if not more. I was so grateful to be invited and to reunite with so many old friends.

43302 - Your parody of Anne Hathaway in Les Miz is still getting a bunch of hits on YouTube. You’ve said It’s all good-natured fun.

Emma - People are still watching that?!? So great :) Haha. It truly was in good fun. An homage of sorts. I think Anne’s wonderful.

43302 - What’s next for you? Are there plans in the works?

Emma - Always! I'm working on some new music little by little and I just relocated to Nashville for a while. Looking forward to connecting with some of my favorite creatives here :)
